Mary Custer, an EIP (Early Intervention Program) teacher at Livingston Elementary, knows that learning to read involves a complex set of brain activities.  Mary received an NEF Teacher Grant last May to purchase materials that would give her students a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to phonics.

From her grant application, “the goal of this project is to provide a tangible, multi-sensory learning experience for students who are learning to read. Reading instruction is typically a listening and/or following along activity. The materials requested in this grant will allow reading to become a hands-on learning experience for everyone!”

We are grateful for our community of supporters whose donations fund great teacher-inspired ideas across Newton County Schools.

The Newton Education Foundation puts community resources to work for our kids so they can achieve academic and personal success. We do this by providing funds that help our schools remove obstacles, provide great educational opportunities that deepen learning and support teachers in meeting the learning needs of all kids.

Consider making a gift, of any amount, so that more students can use the latest tools for learning. www.newtoneducationfoundation.org/donate
