We love a grant project that multitasks!  Catrina Pollard of Eastside High School wanted her students to have a hands-on agricultural experience that would provide them with practical knowledge in orchard management, plant cultivation, and sustainable agriculture practices.  Her grant project, Roots to Fruits, will do that and more.  Students will plant fruit trees and learn how to manage the orchard, pruning and caring for the trees.  In the future, Pollard hopes that productive fruit trees can provide fruit to the school cafeteria and local food banks, “contributing to healthier diets while fostering a sense of community involvement in local food systems.” USDA funds from a Farm-to-School grant to NEF made this grant possible.

This grant was made possible by a USDA Farm-to-School Grant received by NEF.  The Newton Education Foundation puts community resources to work for our kids so they can achieve academic and personal success. We do this by providing funds that help our schools remove obstacles, provide great educational opportunities that deepen learning and support teachers in meeting the learning needs of all kids.

Consider making a gift, of any amount, so that more students can grow their knowledge. www.newtoneducationfoundation.org/donate
