Last spring, Kimberlee Sorrell, Principal of Fairview Elementary, wanted to improve the look of her school’s entrance.  With all the beautiful learning and growing happening inside the building, she thought the outside deserved some love and attention.  She applied for a grant to beautify the entry area to make it worthy of her amazing students and families.

Ms. Sorrell remembered that Ms. Christmas, an Instructional Staff member, had experience working in a plant nursery.  With Ms. Christmas volunteering to help on a Saturday, they were able to install the landscaping border around the school marquee and  organize the purchase order for new Dwarf Alberta trees and flowering plants.  Those will be installed in the plant bed around the school marquee near where the car rider line forms each day. With spring arriving, the bed will soon been filled with bursts of color, welcoming students and parents.  After several weather delays, Ms Sorrell says she is grateful to see the NEF-grant funded project moving towards completion.

This grant was made possible by a USDA Farm-to-School Grant received by NEF.  The Newton Education Foundation puts community resources to work for our kids so they can achieve academic and personal success. We do this by providing funds that help our schools remove obstacles, provide great educational opportunities that deepen learning and support teachers in meeting the learning needs of all kids.

Consider making a gift, of any amount, so that more students can grow their knowledge. www.newtoneducationfoundation.org/donate
