Fairview Elementary Principal Kimberlee Sorrell wanted the entry of the school to better reflect the beautiful learning happening within the building. She submitted a grant to NEF last spring to increase the school’s “curb appeal” with a community supported beatification project.
Since the start of the school year, students and adults have been busy prepping the ground for new landscaping. The project will also include some improved lighting, allowing people who pass the school to see it from afar.
Ms. Sorrell recently shared an update with us:
This week, we had two of our amazing tutors from First Presbyterian Church working with a group of our 2nd graders to plant our first round of bulbs, flowers, and plants. We have tulips, crocuses, and several other beautiful flowers that we hope to see blooming next spring!
Our students learned how to spread soil in a garden, how to plant and space seeds and bulbs, and how to keep clean in the dirt! 🙂
There was a lot of laughter and a lot of ‘WOW’ coming from our students as they learned and discovered the art of gardening. It was also WONDERFUL to see their pride in their building and in beautifying our grounds for everyone to see as they drive by our school or visit our school every day!
We are SO grateful to Newton Education Foundation for their generosity in funding this project – we have brick borders for our garden beds, seeds and bulbs, soil, and solar lighting to start this project! We are excited for our continued and improved Curb Appeal!
