When Christy Williams, a teacher at Clements Middle School, got a grant last fall to work with students on a garden, she likely did not know how many things would delay the project.  But each time she was ready to start, another obstacle presented itself.  The BioLab fire in nearby Conyers and then freezing temperatures and snow, made it impossible to prepare the space for planting.

Ms. Williams and her students were delayed but not deterred and on April 22, Earth Day, she sent NEF some great photos of the project well underway.

The goal of the project, according to Ms. Williams application is for “the students to gain first-hand knowledge about how flowers keep our ecosystem going and to learn how to grow food in their own backyard or on their porch”.  We are grateful to wonderful educators who have to be flexible with their plans!  We can’t wait to see what grows in this garden and in these students.

This grant, and every teacher grant, is made possible by community donations received by NEF.  The Newton Education Foundation puts community resources to work for our kids so they can achieve academic and personal success. We do this by providing funds that help our schools remove obstacles, provide great educational opportunities that deepen learning and support teachers in meeting the learning needs of all kids.

Consider making a gift, of any amount, so that more students can have great classroom experiences that enhance learning. www.newtoneducationfoundation.org/donate
