Newton Education Board members are the backbone of our organization, providing strategy, expanding our base of support and identifying opportunities for service and innovation. One of their favorite activities is getting out in the community and seeing the impact of the donations we invest in Newton County kids.
On November 13, board members Danielle Jones and Michelle Jenkins joined Latrelle Cawthon, NCS Special Olympics Coordinator, at the monthly bowling tournament.
NEF funded a grant in the spring of 2025 to support the Special Olympics programming. Ms. Cawthon shared her appreciation:
Special Olympics Newton County extends its sincere appreciation to the Newton County Education Foundation for its generous financial support.
The funding provided plays a vital role in sustaining our bowling program, which serves more than 400 student-athletes across Newton County Schools. Through this program, athletes receive specialized training and the opportunity to compete at the local, area, and state levels.
This level of participation and achievement would not be possible without the continued support of the Education Foundation. We are truly grateful for their investment in our mission and in the success of our athletes.
Danielle and Michelle were honored to be asked to award the medals to the student athletes.
Danielle had this to say about the experience:
“One of the things I love about NEF is that it has the reach to touch all children in Newton County Schools, so it was such a pleasure to be able to witness this in person. One grant/initiative, that affected many children at multiple schools, even involving ALANHS at the high school level.”
Grants like the one to support this program are funded by donations, large and small, from supporters across Newton County. During this season of giving, we hope you will be inspired to make a donation to support our kids, our teachers and our schools.
