A $3000 NEF teacher innovation grant is supporting the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Newton College and Career Academy (NCAA) as the organization opens new doors for student leaders. The project benefits more than 100 students in grades 9–12 as they pursue competitive events, leadership training, and community service.

Teacher Jasmine El‑Jourbagy, who leads the FBLA chapter, explained that many students are often prevented from advancing beyond the regional level because of the financial strain of higher registration fees and the expectation of wearing professional attire. The NEF grant helps to remove these barriers.

The funding has already provided professional attire so students can meet competition dress‑code requirements. Students from NCCA recently attended the Georgia FBLA State High School Leadership Conference and collected a number of awards and honors – all while looking sharp in their new FBLA jackets.

Other goals for use of the NEF grant are to:

  • Provide membership scholarships to increase participation by 30%
  • Fund travel for state and national leadership conferences
  • Strengthen community service projects and local partnerships
  • Offer workshops in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and technology

These experiences help students build confidence, communication skills, and real‑world career readiness. As El‑Jourbagy explained, the goal is to “develop future-ready graduates who are confident communicators, team players, and leaders.”

The chapter has already seen strong momentum in recent years, and this grant ensures that every student—regardless of financial circumstances—can fully participate and shine on a statewide and national stage.

NEF is proud to champion opportunities that elevate student leadership, expand access, and strengthen Newton County’s future workforce. This investment in NCCA’s FBLA chapter is an investment in the next generation of innovators and professionals.
