Newton Education Foundation (NEF) is pleased to announce that United Bank has redirected $25,000 of its Georgia state tax liability to NEF through the Georgia Peach Education Tax Credit. This is the bank’s second year participating in the program. The tax credit allows individuals and businesses to redirect a portion of their Georgia tax liability to NEF to fund innovative projects in Newton County Schools. United Bank’s gift will support literacy projects across the district.

Thomas Kephart, Regional President for United Bank, shared why the bank chose to participate again:

Community banking means investing in the places where our customers and employees live and work. The Peach Education Tax Credit lets us send dollars we already owe the state straight to Newton County students, and we are proud to do it for a second year. We encourage other local businesses to take a close look at this program.”

NEF Vice Chair Michelle Jenkins accepted the gift on behalf of the foundation.

Returning partners like United Bank are what make this program grow. When a trusted local business comes back for a second year, it shows the rest of the community that the Peach Tax Credit works and that the investment shows up in our classrooms.”

The funds will support literacy projects in Newton County Schools, building on NEF’s investment in structured literacy training for teachers, which began as a pilot and has expanded every year since. Individuals can redirect up to $2,500 of their state tax liability to NEF, married filers up to $5,000, LLCs and S-Corps up to $25,000 and C-Corps up to 75% of what they owe.
