Jaime Felix, art teacher at the NC Steam Academy, wanted her students to have a quality ceramics experience but they needed specialized equipment to make that happen.  An NEF Teacher Grant provided funds for a new slab roller and storage unit to optimize the student experience.

The goals of this project according to Ms. Felix are to: Introduce students to a wide range of ceramic techniques in order to foster creativity and technical skills, enhance the quality of ceramics education at NCSA by providing access to professional-grade equipment,  and cultivate an appreciation and understanding of ceramic arts as a cultural and artistic expression.

Ms. Felix recently sent us some great photos along with this note:  “The students love using the slab roller. Recently they have used it to make clay slabs for trinket trays and other decorative pieces. It’s been a great tool that has really helped them explore new techniques in ceramics. The shelving has also been a big help in organizing supplies and student work.  We truly appreciate your support and the impact it’s had on our classroom!”

This grant, and every teacher grant, is made possible by community donations received by NEF.  The Newton Education Foundation puts community resources to work for our kids so they can achieve academic and personal success. We do this by providing funds that help our schools remove obstacles, provide great educational opportunities that deepen learning and support teachers in meeting the learning needs of all kids.

Consider making a gift, of any amount, so that more students can have great classroom experiences that enhance learning. www.newtoneducationfoundation.org/donate
