In March we announced that NEF had awarded an Opportunity Grant to assist with travel expenses for NCS students participating in a once-in-a-lifetime choral performance at Carnegie Hall. Grants like this one ensure that great educational enrichment opportunities are accessible to all regardless of finances.
We asked NEF board member Tami Thomas who participated in the trip along with her daughter Grace, who performs with the Oxford Youth Singers, if they would share what the trip meant to them.
Carnegie Hall was such a surreal experience. Walking off the bus into the rehearsal hall was like walking into a dream. My amazing director, Johnny Edwards, as well as my amazing OYS and NHS friends helped make it a truly unforgettable experience and I really grew from it. It made me a better singer and grew my already existing acquaintances into some of my closest friends.
– Grace
Watching Grace and her friends perform at Carnegie Hall was truly one of the proudest moments her father and I have experienced as parents. We always hope our children are able to see beyond their current surroundings and recognize the incredible possibilities that exist for their future. Thanks to this amazing opportunity, made possible for all eligible students with the support of the Newton Education Foundation, we were able to watch Grace’s eyes light up with inspiration, confidence, and wonder as she took in a world so much bigger than she imagined. Seeing her stand in such an iconic place reminded me that exposure creates opportunity, and moments like this can shape dreams for a lifetime. We could not be happier or more grateful to witness her growth, joy, and belief in what she can become.
